MLB Predictions: Will Yankees knock off Twins on Tuesday? 9/19/17
Will the Yankees knock off the Twins tonight when the two teams meet at 7:05PM ET?
The Odds: Twins at Yankees, 7:05PM ET, Yankee Stadium
According to oddsmakers, New York is a -163 money line favorite to beat Minnesota. That makes the Twins +147 money line underdogs to pull off the upset. The total, meanwhile, hit the board at 9 and has been bet down to 8.5.
Minnesota Twins
Jose Berrios will take the mound for the Twins tonight. He pitched well in a no-decision against the Blue Jays on Thursday, allowing just one run on five hits across 5 2/3 innings.
In that outing, Berrios fanned five on the night while issuing four free passes. The only blemish on his night came on an RBI single by Josh Donaldson in the fifth inning. He had been in line for the victory until Matt Belisle’s blown save in the ninth inning. The 23-year-old now sits at 12-7 with a 3.84 ERA and 1.18 WHIP on the season.
New York Yankees
The Bombers will counter with CC Sabathia. He was originally scheduled to start Sunday’s series finale against the Orioles, but Sonny Gray pitched instead.
The move is apparently designed to keep Sabathia off the turf in Toronto next weekend. Of course, the veteran southpaw has a chronic knee issue. The change also has the side benefit of ruling Luis Severino out for a start against the Twins, who could face him in the AL Wild Card game.
Our Prediction
The Yankees have been nearly perfect against the Twins when Sabathia faces Minnesota. They’re 7-1 in his last eight starts against the Twins. New York is also 17-8 in Sabathia’s last 25 starts overall and 36-17 in his last 53 outings against American League Central foes.
On the other side, the Twins are just 17-48 in their last 65 games versus the Bombers. They’ve also dropped a whopping 40 of 54 meetings with the Yankees in New York.
Tuesday MLB Prediction: New York Yankees -163
