MLB Predictions: Will A’s vs. Orioles be high-scoring on Tuesday? 8/22/17
Will tonight’s MLB matchup between the A’s and Orioles at 7:05PM ET be high-scoring for bettors?
The Matchup: A’s vs. Orioles, 7:05PM ET, Camden Yards
According to oddsmakers, the Orioles are -160 money line favorites to win tonight at home. That makes the A’s +150 money line underdogs to pull off the upset in Baltimore. With Paul Blackburn set to face Ubaldo Jimenez in the pitching matchup, the over/under currently sits at 11 runs.
The Pitching Matchup: Paul Blackburn (OAK) vs. Ubaldo Jimenez (BAL)
Blackburn owns a 3.46 ERA over 54 2/3 innings of work this season. He took a no-decision in his last outing, which came on August 16 against the Royals at home. In that start, Blackburn allowed our runs on eight hits over just four innings pitched. He walked three, struck out two and allowed one home run. His record stands at 3-1 on the season.
As for Jimenez, he’s 5-8 on the year with a 6.47 ERA over 121 innings of work. He took the loss at Seattle on August 16, losing 7-6 to the Mariners. In that outing, Jimenez allowed six earned runs on eight hits over just 4 1/3 innings pitched. He struck out two, walked one and allowed a home run as well.
Our Prediction
The over is 9-4-2 in the A’s last 15 games versus a team with a losing record. It is also 12-4 in the Orioles’ last 16 home games versus a team with a losing record.
Meanwhile, in Jimenz’s last seven starts against American League West rivals, the over is 6-1. The over is also 7-2 in his last nine home starts and is 15-5-1 in his last 21 outings after scoring five runs or more in their previous game.
The under has cashed the past two nights at Camden Yards, although both times it was by just one run. Given the starting pitching matchup tonight, I like the over to finally cash.
Tuesday MLB Prediction: A’s/Orioles over 11
