MLB Predictions: Will Twins complete sweep of A’s? 5/4/17

Royals vs Twins

Will the Twins complete their sweep of the A’s when the two teams wrap up their series at 1:10PM ET on Thursday?

The Odds

According to oddsmakers, the Twins are favored at -120 on the money line to win today’s matchups. The A’s, meanwhile, have odds of +100 as Oakland sends Jharel Cotton to the hill. Minnesota will counter with Kyle Gibson, while the over/under for today’s game sits at 9 runs.

Cotton struggling over last three starts

Following an impressive two-hit performance against the Royals back on April 10, Cotton has been destroyed in his last three starts. The starter surrendered 13 runs (10 earned) over 15 2/3 innings over those three starts, while allowing 21 hits and seven walks. Still, manager Bob Melvin confirmed earlier this week that Cotton would make his next scheduled start, which is today. On the year, Cotton owns a 5.00 ERA and a 1.61 WHIP over 27 innings of work.

Twins’ Gibson also terrible to start season

Gibson allowed three runs over 5 1/3 innings with one strikeout and three walks in a no-decision versus the Royals last Friday. He had a 9.99 ERA over his first four starts, so at least his last outing was somewhat encouraging. On the season, Gibson owns an 8.06 ERA and a 1.62 WHIP across 22 1/3 combined innings.

MLB Predictions

It’s hard to put money on Gibson but the A’s are struggling. Oakland is 1-8 in its last nine games and just 1-6 in its last seven contests coming off a loss. The A’s are also winless at 0-4 in their last four games in Minnesota and 0-4 in their last four games versus the Twins overall.

The Twins, meanwhile, have won four straight games and are 4-1 in their last five games against the American League West. They’re 4-1 in their last five games coming off a win and 4-0 in their last four games when their opponent allows five runs or more in its previous contest.

Thursday MLB Prediction: Minnesota Twins -120
