According to oddsmakers, Colorado is a -210 money line favorite to win tonight at home. That makes Detroit a +177 money line underdog to pull off the upset. As for the total, the number sits at 12.5 runs.
The Tigers enter play tonight with a 56-73 record, 17 games back of the Indians in the American League Central. They’ve struggled of late, losing seven of their last 10 overall. They’re also coming off a loss on Sunday and are just 25-41 on the road this season.
The Rockies have also scuffled a little bit, losing six of their last 10 games overall. That said, Colorado won back-to-back games in Pittsburgh and are 71-59 on the year. The Rockies have been solid at home this season as well, going 38-25 at Coors Field.
The Pitching Matchup: Jordan Zimmermann (DET) vs. Antonio Senzatela (COL)
Zimmermann has been awful this season, posting a 7-11 record and a 6.11 ERA over 140 innings pitched. He took another loss in his last outing, a 10-2 drubbing at the hands of the Yankees on August 23. In that game, Zimmermann allowed seven runs on nine hits over just five innings.
Senzatela enters play tonight with a 10-4 record and a 4.52 ERA over 121 1/3 innings of work. He took a no-decision in his last start, allowing two runs on nine hits over five innings. He struck out only two but also walked just one and didn’t allow a long ball.
Our Prediction:
The Tigers have been awful when Zimmermann starts. They’re 4-10 in his last 14 outings. They’re 3-11 in his last 14 road starts. They’re also 2-9 in his last 11 outings versus a team with a winning record.
On the other side, the Rockies have been a solid bet when Senzatela starts at home, posting a 6-1 record over his last seven outings at Coors. They’re also 4-1 in his last five starts after allowing two runs or less in their previous game.
