MLB Predictions: Will Rays & Yankees go over betting total? 9/27/17

Yankees vs A's

Will the Rays and Yankees go over the betting total tonight when the American League East rivals clash at  7:05PM ET?

The Odds: Rays at Yankees, 7:05PM ET, Yankee Stadium

According to oddsmakers, the Yankees are -270 money line favorites to win tonight at home. That makes the Rays +215 money line underdogs to pull off the upset. As for the total, the number hit the board at 8 before climbing to 8.5.

Tampa Bay Rays

Matt Andriese will take the hill for Tampa Bay tonight. He struggled early but persevered to earn a quality start last Thursday, allowing three runs over six innings in a loss to the Orioles.

Andriese had allowed three runs early, falling in a hole after just five batters. But despite things looking bleak, he straightened out to get out of the inning without further harm, and then posted five scoreless innings before exiting. The right-hander struck out eight with one walk and seven hits allowed. The loss dropped him to 5-4 on the year, having not won a game since May 25. Andriese will take a 4.44 ERA and 1.37 WHIP into his last start of the season tonight.

New York Yankees

The Bronx Bombers will counter with Luis Severino. He surrendered three earned runs over three innings Wednesday in a no-decision versus the Twins.

New York would eventually win the game thanks to an 11-run offensive outburst. Severino was sharp until the top of the third, when he allowed five of the first six Minnesota batters to reach base and watched his pitch count balloon into the 70s. Chasen Shreve then came on for the top of the fourth. Severino, 23, will carry a still-ace-like 3.03 ERA and 1.05 WHIP into his start tonight. He boasts a 221/50 K/BB ratio in 187 1/3 innings this season.

Our Prediction

The over is 7-3 in Andriese’s last 10 starts overall. It is also 8-3 in his last 11 outings after scoring two runs or less in their previous game. The over has cashed in seven of Andriese’s last 10 starts following a quality start in his last appearance, too.

On the other side, the over is 6-2 in the Yankees’ last eight divisional games. The over is 20-7 in their last 27 games coming off a win. Finally, the over has hit in seven of New York’s last 10 home games.

Wednesday MLB Prediction: Rays/Yankees over 8.5
