MLB Predictions: Will the Orioles get past the Blue Jays? 9/2/17

Royals at Blue Jays

After a low-scoring game on Friday, will the Baltimore Orioles get back to their power hitting when they face the Toronto Blue Jays tonight at 7:05PM ET?

ODDS

According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the Orioles are favored at home, as they are getting odds of -120 to win, while the Blue Jays are listed with a money line of +110 to prevail. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 9.5 runs.

PITCHING MATCHUP

The pitching matchup tonight has Marcus Stroman (11-6, 3.11 ERA) throwing for Toronto to face Wade Miley (8-10, 4.99) of the Orioles. Miley hasn’t been getting deep into games lately, but also is taking a ton of damage, he has allowed six runs over his last three starts, a total of 15.2 innings. Miley has 122 strikeouts with 79 walks this season and a 1.69 WHIP. Stroman has been somewhat shaky as of late, allowing 13 runs over his last four starts. Stroman has 139 strikeouts this season with 51 walks and a 1.31 WHIP.

RECORDS

These two have split the first two games of the weekend series. Toronto earned an 11-8 win on Thursday night and Baltimore followed up with a 1-0 victory on Friday. The Jays are now 62-73 overall and 27-39 on the road. Baltimore is 69-66 overall and 42-27 at home.

FRIDAY’S RECAP

Friday’s game was a 13-inning battle that saw just one run scored. Jonathan Schoop finally broke through with a RBI double in the bottom of the 13th to end the game. Baltimore had five pitchers combine for the shutout. Kevin Gausman got the start and went six innings while recording eight strikeouts. Toronto used six pitchers in the loss. Joe Biagini pitched seven scoreless innings and had 10 strikeouts. Manny Machado had four hits and scored the lone run for the Orioles while Kevin Pillar had three hits to lead the Blue Jays.

MLB PREDICTIONS

The Orioles won with pitching on Friday, but it has been their hitting that has carried them most of this week. Baltimore should be able to get back to mashing the ball tonight when it faces Stroman. Stroman has a strong ERA for the season, but his numbers are declining and he has given up multiple runs to lesser lineups in recent starts. Miley is trending up and I think he will continue to do that against this Toronto lineup.
