MLB Predictions: Will Nationals complete sweep of Mets? 4/23/17

Cardinals vs Nationals

Will the Nationals complete their sweep of the Mets tonight at 8:00PM ET? Our MLB predictions series continues with a look at this week’s Sunday Night Baseball matchup.

On Friday, the Nationals beat the Mets 4-3 behind Bryce Harper’s seventh home run of the season. On Saturday, the Nationals took the series as Gio Gonzalez held the Mets to one run over 6 1/3 innings. Harper had another solid game, walking three times and scoring a run in the win.

Nationals Favored vs. Mets

According to oddsmakers, the Nationals are -145 money line favorites to beat the Mets tonight. New York has +140 odds to pull off the upset and the total sits at 7 runs with Max Scherzer set to oppose Zack Wheeler. In the previous two games of this series, Washington was the underdog.

Nationals send Scherzer to hill

In three games this season, Scherzer is 2-1 with three quality starts. He owns a 1.37 ERA to go along with a 0.90 WHIP over 19 2/3 combined innings. In his previous start, he allowed two hits over seven shutout frames versus the Braves. In that outing, Scherzer walked three batters but struck out seven.

Mets counter with Wheeler

Wheeler has already appeared in four games for the Mets but just has one win to show for his efforts. He struck out seven over five innings while allowing one run on Tuesday versus the Phillies. He struck out seven in that game but didn’t factor into the decision. The Mets eventually lost that game in 10 innings.

MLB Predictions

The Mets have not been profitable in Wheeler’s recent starts. They enter tonight winless in four of Wheeler’s last four outings at home and 1-5 in his last six starts versus the Nationals. Conversely, the Nationals are 67-33 in their last 100 games versus the Mets. They’re also 41-14 in their last 55 games in New York.

The Nationals have also been profitable when Scherzer toes the rubber. They’re 20-8 in his last 28 starts and 23-6 in his last 29 outings against divisional rivals. They’re also 11-1 in his last 12 starts when facing a team with a losing record.

Take the Nationals -145
