Will the Mets complete their sweep of the A’s when the two teams wrap up their series at 1:10PM ET on Sunday?

The Matchup: A’s vs. Mets, 1:10PM ET, Citi Field

Oakland enters play this afternoon with a 35-44 record, a 13-27 mark on the road, and a 4-6 record over its last 10 games. As for New York, the Mets are 36-42 on the season, are 17-23 at home, and have split over their last 10 games.

According to oddsmakers, the Mets are -137 money line favorites to win today at home. That makes the visiting A’s a +126 money line underdog to pull off the upset. The total, meanwhile, sits at 9.5 runs.

The Pitching Matchup: Daniel Gossett (OAK) vs. Rafael Montero (NYM)

Gossett hasn’t picked up a win since June 24 and is coming off back-to-back losses. In his last start, he pitched seven innings in a 3-2 loss to the Rays. He allowed three runs on seven hits while striking out three and walking one. Gossett is now 1-5 on the year and owns a 5.79 ERA.

As for Montero, he also took a loss in his last outing. He pitched six innings against the Cardinals on July 18, allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits. He struck out five and walked one to run his record to 1-6 on the year. Montero owns a 5.40 ERA.

Our Prediction

Oakland has dropped four out of its last five games and is winless at 0-8 in its last eight games against National League East opponents. The A’s are just 2-5 in Gossett’s last seven starts as well.

New York, meanwhile, has won four consecutive games and is 9-2 in its last 11 interleague contests. The Mets have also won seven of their last nine games against American League West competition.
