MLB Predictions: Will Marlins vs. Braves be low-scoring? 6/17/17

Marlins vs Phillies

Will today’s National League East matchup between the Marlins and Braves fall under the betting total?

The Odds: Marlins vs. Braves, 4:10PM ET, SunTrust Park

According to oddsmakers, Atlanta is -116 money line favorites to win today at home. That makes Miami +106 money line underdogs to pull off the small upset. As for the total, the number dropped from the original number of 9.5 to the current number of 9.

The Pitching Matchup: Jeff Locke (MIA) vs. Jaime Garcia (ATL)

In his last start, Locke allowed three runs on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings versus the Pirates last Sunday. He surrendered a two-run double to Elias Diaz in the first inning, then would allowed one more in the sixth inning before exiting the game. The southpaw carries a 4.02 ERA and 1.28 WHIP into today’s road start.

Garcia, meanwhile, struck out nine over seven innings but took the loss last Sunday against the Mets. He scattered seven hits in the performance and walked two. The veteran left-hander pitched well enough to pick up a win, but received little run support in a 2-1 game. Garcia currently owns a 3.16 ERA and 1.23 WHIP.

Our Prediction

The under has cashed in six straight Atlanta home games after the over was hitting with regularity in the first two months of the season. The under is also 6-0 in the BRaves’ last six home games when facing an opponent with a losing record.

Also, the under is 5-0 in Garcia’s last five starts. In his last four outings versus National League East rivals, the under is 4-0. Furthermore, the under is 5-0 in Garcia’s last five outings following a quality start in his last appearance.

Finally, the under is 9-4-1 in the Marlins’ last 14 games after scoring five runs or more in their previous game.

Saturday MLB Prediction: Braves/Marlins under 9
