MLB Predictions: Will Mariners vs. Rangers go over betting total? 6/17/17

Mariners vs Rangers

Will today’s American League West matchup between the Mariners and Rangers go over the betting total at 5:05PM ET?

The Odds: Mariners vs. Rangers, 5:05PM ET, Globe Life Park in Arlington

According to oddsmakers, the Rangers are -120 money line favorites to win this evening at home. Meanwhile, the Mariners have odds of +105 to pull off the upset in Arlington. The total for this matchup currently sits at 11 runs.

The Pitching Matchup: Yovani Gallardo (SEA) vs. Martin Perez (TEX)

Gallardo took the loss in his last outing, which came last Thursday versus the Rockies. He allowed six hits, five runs and walked three while recording just two strikeouts. Colorado racked up four runs against Gallardo in the second inning, then nabbed another in the third on a home run by Nolan Arenado. It was the second time in the veteran’s last three outings that he failed to make it out of the fourth inning.

Perez, meanwhile, allowed two earned runs over five innings in a no-decision last week versus the Nationals. Texas went on to win the game in extra innings. The veteran left-hander gave up seven hits but handed out just one free pass while striking out five. He currently owns a 4.56 ERA and a 1.63 WHIP on the season.

Our Prediction

The over is a perfect 4-0 in the last four meetings between these two teams. It has also cashed in 20 of the last 28 meetings overall.

Also, in Perez’s last five home starts versus the Mariners, the over is a perfect 5-0. It is 10-2 in his last 12 outings versus Seattle overall, as well.

Given this pitching matchup, this should be a shootout tonight from the opening inning. Neither starter figures to hold the opposing offense in check.

Saturday MLB Prediction: Mariners/Rangers over 11
