MLB Predictions: Will the Indians best the Angels again? 9/20/17
Will the Cleveland Indians continue to cruise past the Los Angeles Angels when the two continue their series tonight at 10PM ET? Here’s our MLB Predictions for this collision.
ODDS
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the Indians are favored on the road, as they are getting odds of -125 to win. The Angels are listed with a money line of +110 to win, while the over/under total has been listed at 8.5 runs.
PITCHING MATCHUP
Tonight’s pitching matchup has Josh Tomlin (9-9, 5.04 ERA) on the mound for the Tribe to face Ricky Nolasco (6-14, 5.11) of the Angels. Tomlin has allowed two runs or fewer in his last five starts. He has racked up 95 strikeouts this season with 14 walks and a 1.27 WHIP. Nolasco has been struggling lately, allowing at least three runs in three of his last four starts. Nolasco has 133 strikeouts with 53 walks and a 1.44 WHIP.
RECORDS
The Indians won the first game in this series on Tuesday, picking up a 6-3 win. The Tribe have won all four meetings with the Angels this season and Cleveland has won 25 of its last 26 games. The Tribe is now 94-57 overall and 49-27 on the road. Los Angeles is 76-74 overall and 41-35 at home.
TUESDAY’S RECAP
Tuesday’s game saw Mike Clevinger pitch six innings and allow just one run, improving to 11-5 on the season. Tyler Skaggs took the loss by allowed just two runs over 5.1 innings. The Indians were able to rack up three runs in the ninth to pad their lead. Jay Bruce had three hits with a double and a triple to lead the Indians while Edwin Encarnacion had two hits and two RBI. The Angels were led by Justin Upton, who had his 32nd home run of the season.
MLB PREDICTIONS
Tomlin’s numbers have been getting better as the season has moved on. He posted a 3.41 ERA in July before getting hurt and has a 2.76 ERA through three starts in September. Nolasco can’t say the same, as he has been over the 5.00 ERA line over the last three months. I don’t see Nolasco putting together an outing that will shut down this Cleveland lineup. Even if Tomlin isn’t great, he has a much better bullpen behind him to handle this Los Angeles lineup.
