MLB Predictions: Will the over hit when Cubs host Rockies? 6/8/17

Cubs vs Padres

Will the Rockies and Cubs play over the betting total when the two teams meet tonight at 8:05PM ET?

The Odds: Rockies vs. Cubs, 8:05PM ET, Wrigley Field

Accoridng to oddsmakers, the Cubs are -190 money line favorites. The Rockies, meanwhile, are +160 money line underdogs. As for the total, the number hit the board at 9 and that’s where it sits.

The Pitching Matchup: Tyler Chatwood (COL) vs. Jon Lester (CHC)

Chatwood held the Padres to one run over eight innings last Saturday. He allowed a solo home run to Austin Hedges but held San Diego to just four hits and a walk overall. The 27-year-old also struck out eight in the win. Chatwood now owns a 4.60 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP.

Lester allowed three earned runs over six innings last Saturday in a no-decision against the Cardinals. He left the game when Chicago was trailing 3-1, but Kyle Schwarber led a Cub comeback with a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh. Chicago went on to win the game, 5-03. Lester now owns a 3.91 ERA on the season.

Our Prediction

The over is 7-3-2 in the Rockies’ last 12 road games. In their last 14 games when facing a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30, the over is 9-4-1. Furthermore, the over is 3-1-1 in Chatwood’s last five starts when their opponent scores five runs or more in their previous game.

On the other side, the over is 19-7-1 in the Cubs’ last 27 home games and is 5-1 in Lester’s last six starts coming off four days of rest. In Lester’s last four outings versus a team with a winning record, the over is a perfect 4-0.

Given how the Cubs’ bats have come alive of late, the over is a good play tonight at Wrigley.
