MLB Predictions: Will Dodgers beat Giants, sweep series Sunday night? 7/30/17

Giants vs. Dodgers

Will the Dodgers sweep their biggest rival the Giants tonight on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball?

The Matchup: Giants vs. Dodgers, 8:05PM ET, Dodger Stadium

San Francisco enters play having lost the first two games of this series and is now 4-6 in its last 10 contests. The Giants are having a brutal season, posting a 30-51 record to date. They’re also just 13-30 on the road this year.

As for Los Angeles, the Dodgers have won eight of their last 10 games and are an astounding 53-28 on the season. They’re also 33-11 at home this year, which includes back-to-back wins in this series.

According to oddsmakers, the Dodgers are -149 money line favorites to win tonight at home. That makes the Giants +139 money line underdogs to pull off the upset on the road. The total, meanwhile, sits at 8.5 runs, down from the original number of 9.5.

The Pitching Matchup: Madison Bumgarner (SF) vs. Hyun-Jin Ryu (LAD)

Bumgarner finally earned his first victory in 2017. He pitched five innings of one-run ball versus the Pirates on July 25, scattering six hits and striking out four. Bumgarner is now 1-4 on the year and owns a 3.38 ERA.

On the other side is Ryu, who is 3-6 on the season and owns a 4.17 ERA. He hasn’t won since a June 17 start against the Reds in Cincinnati. Ryu took a no-decision in a 6-4 win over the Twins on July 24, which was his last start. In that outing, he allowed two runs on five hits while striking out five and walking three over five innings.

Our Prediction

Some bettors will jump on the Giants with their ace on the mound, but Bumgarner hasn’t been a great play versus the Dodgers in previous meetings. San Francisco is 1-6 in Bumgarner’s last seven starts versus the Dodgers and is winless at 0-4 in his last four road outings versus L.A.

Here’s the other thing: The Giants’ lineup is one of the weakest in baseball on the moment. Outside of Buster Posey, nobody in their lineup is imposing. Miguel Gomez, Jae-Gyun Hwang, Gorkys Hernandez and Kelby Tomlinson are just some of the names that comprised San Francisco’s lineup on Saturday. Yikes.

Sunday MLB Prediction: Los Angeles Dodgers -149
