Cubs vs Padres

Will the Cubs hand the Mets on the runline tonight when the two teams meet at 8:05PM ET?

The Matchup: Mets vs. Cubs, 8:05PM ET, Wrigley Field

According to oddsmakers, Chicago is a -280 money line favorite to beat New York. That makes the Mets +240 money line underdogs to pull off the upset. The total, meanwhile, sits at 8.5 runs.

New York Mets

The Mets have split over their last 10 games but have dropped back-to-back contests entering play tonight. At 63-81, the club sits in fourth place in the National League East. They’re just 30-40 on the road in 2017.

Matt Harvey will toe the rubber for the Mets tonight. He earned the win last Thursday in his second start since being activated off the disabled list. He allowed just two runs over five innings against the Reds.

Despite earning the victory, Harvey stuck out only one batter while allowing five hits and a walk. He’s now 5-4 on the season and owns a 5.82 ERA with a 1.50 WHIP in 15 starts. Harvey has battled a stress reaction in his right shoulder.

Chicago Cubs

Joe Maddon’s team remains in first placed despite lackluster play over their last 10 games. Chicago enters play with a 78-66 record but has dropped six of its last 10 games. The Cubs have been a solid bet at home this year, posting a 41-32 record at home.

Jon Lester will oppose Harvey in tonight’s pitching matchup. He held the Pirates to one run over six innings in a win last Thursday. Lester walked four and allowed five hits, but an RBi groundout in the third inning was all Pittsburgh could muster.

The start was Lester’s best in almost two months. He improved to 10-7 with a 4.35 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP over 28 starts. He’s won five of his last six decisions.

Our Prediction

The Mets are just 1-6 in Harvey’s last seven road starts and are 4-9 in his last 13 outings overall. They’re also winless in Harvey’s last five outings versus an opponent with a winning record. On the other side, the Cubs are 22-7 in Lester’s last 29 home starts and are 38-18 in his last 56 starts overall.

Wednesday MLB Prediction: Chicago Cubs -1.5
