MLB Predictions: Will Cardinals vs. Reds go over betting total? 6/5/17

Cardinals vs Reds

Will tonight’s matchup between the Cardinals and Reds go over the betting total at 7:10PM ET?

The Odds: Cardinals vs. Reds, 7:10PM ET, Great American Ball Park

According to oddsmakers, the Cardinals are -134 money line favorites to beat the Reds tonight in Cincinnati. That makes the Reds +124 money line underdogs to pull off the upset at home. As for the total, the number hit the board at 9 and that’s where it currently sits.

Pitching Matchup: Carlos Martinez (STL) vs. Asher Wojciechowski (Reds)

Martinez has been brilliant of late for the Cardinals. He pitched eight innings of one-run ball in his last outing, a 2-1 St. Louis win over the Dodgers. He struck out nine batters in that game and closed out May with a 4-1 record. Martinez has turned in seven straight quality starts so the Reds have their work cut out for them tonight.

As for Wojciechowski, he allowed four runs and three home runs in four innings on Tuesday versus the Blue Jays. He was making his fourth big-league start, with the other three coming with the Astros in 2015. Even though Wojciechowski is best suited for middle relief, Cincinnati is desperate for pitching right now.

Our Prediction

The Cardinals have struggled for offense all season but scored six runs against the Cubs on Sunday night, which was perhaps a sign of positive things to come. Stephen Piscotty hit a three-run home run and Dexter Fowler is starting to find his stroke, so look for the Cards to score plenty tonight.

The over is 3-0-1 in the last four meetings between these two teams and is 6-2 in the Reds’ last eight home games. The over is also 20-6-2 in Cincinnati’s last 28 games versus National League Central rivals.

Monday MLB Prediction: St. Louis Cardinals -134
