MLB Predictions: Will Braves vs. Mets cash the over? 9/27/17

Mets vs Braves

Will the Braves and Mets score enough runs tonight to push the combine score over the total?

The Odds: Braves vs. Mets, 7:10PM ET, Citi Field

According to oddsmakers, Atlanta is a -108 money line favorite. New York is technically the underdog, but the Mets are -102 on the money line. The total, meanwhile, sits at 8.5 runs after opening at 9.

Atlanta Braves

Sean Newcomb will hit the rubber tonight for Atlanta. He gave up two runs over 5 1/3 innings in a 7-2 victory over the Phillies on Friday.

With the benefit of a big early lead, Newcomb held the Phillies hitless until Cesar Hernandez doubled to lead off the fourth inning. The rookie southpaw was pulled after giving up an RBI single to Nick Williams in the sixth. Newcomb fanned five and walked a pair in the victory and now sits at 4-8 with a 4.26 ERA over 18 starts. He’s been on a nice run recently, allowing three earned runs or fewer in 10 out of his last 11 starts.

New York Mets

New York will counter with Robert Gsellman. He was knocked around for six runs (five earned) over five innings in a no-decision against the Nationals on Friday.

It was a disappointing showing on two fronts. First, because Gsellman was coming off his best start of the season. And second, because he was facing the Nationals’ B-squad. The 24-year-old came into the year with big expectations, but he has compiled a disappointing 5.38 ERA over 21 starts and three relief appearances.

Our Prediction

The over is 4-1 in Newcomb’s last five starts coming off four days of rest. On the other side, the over is 4-1 in Gsellman’s last five starts overall. It is also 12-3-1 in Gsellman’s last 16 outings versus National League East opponents. In his last 14 home starts, the combined score has also gone over the total in 10 of those games.

Wednesday MLB Prediction: Braves/Mets over 8.5
