MLB Predictions: Are the Twins the smart bet vs. White Sox? 8/30/17

Royals vs Twins

Are the Twins a smart bet to beat the White Sox on the run line again tonight when the American League Central rivals meet again at 8:10PM ET?

The Matchup: White Sox vs. Twins, 8:10PM ET, Target Field

According to oddsmakers, Minnesota is a -230 money line favorite to beat Chicago tonight. That makes the White Sox a +205 money line underdog to pull off the upset. As for the total, the number sits at 9.5 runs after opening at 9.

Following their victory last night, the Twins are now 68-63 on the season and 32-35 at home. They’ve won two in a row, are 6-4 in their last 10 games, but are still 6.5 games back to the Indians in the American League Central.

The White Sox, meanwhile, dropped to 52-78 on the season following their 6-4 loss to the Twins last night. They’re also just 22-44 on the road but have still won six of their last 10 games overall.

The Pitching Matchup: Derek Holland (CHW) vs. Jose Berrios (MIN)

Holland yielded just one run on three hits over six innings last Thursday against the Twins. He walked four — but the Twins were unable to knock him for anything more than a solo home run by Byron Buxton in the sixth inning. He had been demolished for 14 runs on 13 hits in his last two starts (covering just 4 2/3 frames) before he turned in Thursday’s surprise performance. Holland will bring a 6.05 ERA and 1.68 WHIP into tonight’s matchup.

As for Berrios, he surrendered five runs (only three were earned) on four hits over 5 1/3 innings in last Thursday’s loss to the White Sox. He struck out nine and walked three but a three-run fourth inning cost him in the loss. He carries a 4.04 ERA and 1.16 WHIP into a home start against the White Sox.

Our Prediction:

The White Sox have been a horrible play when Holland toes the rubber. They’re just 3-13 in his last 16 starts overall and winless in his last six road outings. They’re also just 1-8 in Holland’s last nine starts after allowing five runs or more in their previous game. They’re 1-7 in his last eight outings versus divisional opponents as well.

On the other side, the Twins have won five straight at home, 16 of their last 23 games overall, and are a perfect 6-0 in Berrios’ last six home starts.

Wednesday MLB Prediction: Minnesota Twins -1.5
