According to the latest oddsmakers, the Indians are favored in tonight’s game, as they are getting odds of -135 to win, while the Yankees are getting a money line of +125 to prevail. The over/under total for the contest has been listed at 9.5 runs.
PITCHING MATCHUP
The pitching matchup tonight has Jaime Garcia on the mound for the Yankees to face Trevor Bauer (9-8, 5.25 ERA) of the Indians. Garcia will be making his first start with the Yankees. He just recently had a start with the Twins where he allowed three runs in 6.2 innings. He pitched with the Braves prior to that and went 4-7 with a 4.30 ERA. Bauer is coming off an 8-inning start against the Angels where he gave up just one run. He has 117 strikeouts on the year with 42 walks and 1.46 WHIP.
RECORDS
The Indians opened up this weekend series with a 5-1 win at home on Thursday night. Cleveland improved to 58-48 overall and 29-24 at home with the win while the Yankees fell to 57-50 overall and 25-30 on the road.
THURSDAY’S RECAP
Thursday’s game saw Corey Kluber continue to dominate, as he pitched a complete game. Kluber went all nine innings and allowed just one run and three hits with 11 strikeouts. He improved to 9-3 on the season. Sonny Gray made his New York debut and went six innings and allowed four runs, though two were unearned. Francisco Lindor hit his 18th home run of the season to lead Cleveland while Yan Gomes drove in a pair of runs. New York was led by Gary Sanchez, who hit a solo home run. It was his 17th of the season.
MLB PREDICTIONS
Garcia is making his first start for the Yankees a day after Gray did. I don’t expect Garcia’s start to go much better. He probably will have some nerves in this new role and is on the road against a good Cleveland lineup. Bauer hasn’t had good stats this year, but is coming off a really impressive start. Bauer may not be able to duplicate that against New York, but I think he can best Garcia’s effort and turn the ball over to his solid bullpen.
