MLB Predictions: Are the Blue Jays a good bet to beat Red Sox? 8/28/17
Are the Blue Jays a good bet to beat the Red Sox tonight when the two teams meet at 7:07PM ET?
The Matchup: Red Sox vs. Blue Jays, 7:07PM ET, Rogers Centre
According to oddsmakers, Toronto and Boston both have -110 odds, respectively, to win tonight’s game. The total, meanwhile, sits at 8.5 runs.
The Red Sox enter play tonight on a downturn. The club has dropped four in a row and six of 10 overall. They’re 73-57 overall and 33-32 on the road this season.
On the other side, the Blue Jays have struggled even worse. They’ve lost seven of their last 10 to fall to 61-69 overall and lost 7-2 to the Twins on Sunday. Toronto does have a winning home record, however, going 35-31 at Rogers Centre.
The Pitching Matchup: Drew Pomeranz (BOS) vs. Marcus Stroman (TOR)
Pomeranz is 13-4 on the year and owns a 3.18 ERA over 136 innings pitched. He’s coming off a victory against the Indians in Cleveland on August 23. In that 6-1 win, Pomeranz allowed zero runs on two hits over 5 1/3 innings while striking out nine and walking four.
Stroman, meanwhile, is 11-6 on the season and owns a 3.17 ERA over 164 2/3 innings of work. He took a no-decision in his last start, which came on August 23 in Tampa. Stroman allowed five runs on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings pitched. He struck out four and walked one but surrendered three home runs in the process.
Our Prediction
On top of losing four straight, the Red Sox have also dropped four of their last five divisional matchups. They’re 0-7 in their last seven games versus a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30 as well.
On the other side, the Blue Jays are 14-6 in Stroman’s last 20 starts and have won eight of his last 10 outings at home. Both teams are struggling, but I like the home team to prevail tonight.
