MLB Prediction: Will the Indians and Padres get to 8 runs? 7/4/17
Will Corey Kluber help keep the total low when the Cleveland Indians battle it out with the San Diego Padres tonight at 7:10PM ET? Here’s our MLB Prediction for tonight’s contest
THE ODDS
According to the latest oddsmakers, Cleveland is the heavy favorite in this game, as the Indians are getting odds of -330 to win. The Padres are listed with odds of +265 to win, while the over/under total for the game has been set at 8 runs. These two teams haven’t met since the 2014 season.
PITCHING MATCHUP
The pitching matchup tonight has Kluber (7-2, 3.02 ERA) on the mound for the Indians to face Trevor Cahill (3-2, 3.27) of the Padres. Cahill is making his eighth start of 2017. He has been competitive in most games, allowing two runs or less in four starts. He has 51 strikeouts with 17 walks this year and has a 1.21 WHIP. Kluber has been on a tear, allowing just one earned run in his last three starts, a total of 24 innings. Kluber has 105 strikeouts with 20 walks this season. He also has a 1.00 WHIP.
INDIANS
Cleveland has won four of its last five, including taking two of three in Detroit. The Indians are 44-37 overall, 18-21 at home and 47-29 with the under. Cleveland is averaging 4.81 runs per game this season while allowing 4.09. The Indians are being led by Jose Ramirez, who has 26 doubles, 15 homers and 42 RBI. He also is hitting .325. Edwin Encarnacion is adding 17 home runs and 45 RBI.
PADRES
The Padres are coming off a series loss at home to the Dodgers. San Diego is 34-48 overall, 12-26 on the road and 41-36 with the over. The Padres are putting up just 3.61 runs per game while allowing 5.07 per contest. San Diego is being led by Wil Myers, who has 14 doubles, 16 homers and 42 RBI. Yangervis Solarte is adding 10 home runs and 40 RBI.
MLB PREDICTION
The oddsmakers are giving a lot of credit to Kluber tonight. I understand why, but I am not sure I would take the Indians at -330 against anyone. Regardless, Kluber should be able to navigate this San Diego lineup. He has shutdown much better teams in recent starts. Cahill has been pretty good on the mound as well. Cleveland hasn’t been terribly consistent at the plate, so I could see Cahill keeping the Indians’ runs to a minimum as well. The total isn’t high, but I see the under hitting.
MLB Prediction: Padres/Indians Under 8
