Brewers’ Anderson lifted in fifth inning of last start vs. Padres

Chase Anderson was lifted after allowing four runs in 4 2/3 innings Tuesday against the Padres. Anderson was spotted a four-run lead in the first, but he gave up two in third, one in the fourth and one more in the fifth before being lifted. It’s the first time in nine starts since June 17 that he’s given up more than two runs. Still, since he’s not pitching very deep into games and run support has been an issue, he’s won just two of the nine starts.

Braves’ Newcomb superb over six innings vs. Nationals

Sean Newcomb fanned six while tossing six innings of one-run ball Tuesday, taking a no-decision in the Braves’ 3-1 win over the Nationals. Newcomb was pitching on eight days’ rest after he threw 134 pitches in his near no-hitter and he certainly looked fresh in this one, holding his own in a head-to-head matchup with Max Scherzer. A Juan Soto solo homer was the only blemish on his record Tuesday, as he gave up just five hits and walked two. Newcomb went through a rough stretch but has now bounced back with three straight outings with just one run allowed. He’ll try to keep it going on Sunday at home against the Brewers.
