Louisiana Tech vs. SMU Bowl Predictions Against the Spread 12/20/17

Louisiana Tech

Are the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs a good play as an underdog on Wednesday night? They’ll take on the SMU Mustangs at 8:00 p.m. ET in the DXL Frisco Bowl?

The Odds: Louisiana Tech vs. SMU, 8:00 p.m. ET, Wednesday

According to oddsmakers, the Mustangs are now 3.5-point favorites to beat the Bulldogs. Louisiana Tech opened as a 5-point underdog before the line dropped. The total, meanwhile, sits at 71 points after hitting the board at 68.

Louisiana Tech Bulldogs

Two players are questionable tonight for the Bulldogs while a handful of others are out for the year. The two players that are questionable are linebacker Brandon Durman and wide receiver Marcus Gaines.

The players that are out for the year are cornerback Ephraim Kitchen and receiver Alfred Smith. Drew Melancon, Michael Sam, and Reggie Cleveland have also been out for the season since early November.

SMU Mustangs

Jordan Wyatt is out with a leg injury. Meanwhile, James Proche (hamstring), Mikial Onu (concussion) and Nick Natour (leg) are all questionable.

Our Prediction

I like teams getting points when they’re playing opponents that can’t play defense. And SMU can’t play defense. The Mustangs are allowing 35.5 points per game. They’re allowing nearly 500 total yards of offense per game (486.7). They can’t stop the run (213.2 rushing yards per game allowed) and are surrendering 273.4 yards through the air per game.

Can they score? Yes, SMU can score (40.2 points per game). But if it’s going to be a shootout, I’d rather have the 3.5 points in my back pocket with a Louisiana Tech team that is 4-1 against the spread in its last five bowl games.
