Ross Stripling allowed one earned run, four hits and two walks with nine strikeouts over seven innings in a victory against Philadelphia on Wednesday.
Stripling threw 61 of his 92 pitches for strikes in the quality start and his only mistake was a solo home run allowed to Nick Williams in the seventh inning when he started running out of gas. He has won three straight starts, lowering his ERA from 2.20 to 1.68 since May 12 during the impressive span. He’ll look to keep up the good work on the road Tuesday in Pittsburgh.
Pirates’ Musgrove allows one run in win over Cubs
Joe Musgrove let in just one run in seven innings as he beat the Cubs 2-1 on Wednesday.
He was making his second start of the season and it was almost as great as the first one (he tossed seven shutout frames against the Cardinals on Friday). He scattered seven hits and four walks while striking out five in today’s gem outing. Javier Baez drove in a run in the first inning for the only damage the Cubs could muster all night. Musgrove missed the first two months of the season with a shoulder issue after being acquired from the Astros in the Gerrit Cole trade over the winter. He is 2-0 with a 0.64 ERA and will put that on the line against the Dodgers on Tuesday in the first of a two-start week.
