Angels’ Barria pitches well in loss to Red Sox
Jaime Barria pitched well in a losing effort against the Red Sox on Thursday, allowing two runs on four hits over his 5 1/3 innings. Barria struck out four and walked a pair in the ballgame. The only real damage that he allowed came on a solo homer by Rafael Devers in the fifth inning. He also allowed a one-out walk in the sixth, who eventually came around to score after Barria had departed. With a 3.40 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 46/16 K/BB ratio he remains an intriguing fantasy option for Wednesday’s start against the Mariners in Seattle.
Mariners’ Gonzales notches first complete game win
Marco Gonzales went the distance Friday, allowing one run in a complete-game victory over the Royals. Gonzales needed just 96 pitches to dispose of baseball’s most disposable offense. It was his first complete game in 31 major league starts. His previous long outing was 7 1/3 innings against the Rays earlier this month. He almost had the shutout, too, but Adalberto Mondesi doubled to open the ninth and scored on a Mike Moustakas single with two outs. Gonzales will get the Angels next time out. Mixed leaguers can still do better.
