Angels vs Padres

Under bettors were burned on Monday night when the Angels and Padres combined for six runs in the eighth inning on. Will the over also cash on Tuesday night when L.A. visits San Diego at 10:10 p.m. ET?

Oddsmakers from online sportsbooks currently list the Angels as a -112 favorite. As of this writing, 72% of the betting tickets wagered at online sportsbooks are on the Angels to beat the Padres on the moneyline.

Angels’ Barria throws 5 2/3 scoreless innings vs. Tigers

Jaime Barria limited Detroit to five hits over 5 2/3 innings of scoreless ball Wednesday in a 6-0 Angels victory. Barria registered five strikeouts and one walk over 92 pitches. Of the five hits he allowed, only one—Jeimer Candelario’s leadoff double in the fourth—went for extra bases. Barria has impressed as a rookie, contributing a respectable 3.59 ERA across 87 2/3 innings. There’s room for improvement—his strikeout rate has been subpar (6.57 K/9) and he’s lasted longer than six innings on just one occasion. But considering his age (he just turned 22), the right-hander has been excellent.

Padres’ Kennedy lit up in Major League Debut by Brewers

Brett Kennedy was pounded for six runs and three homers in four innings by the Brewers in his major league debut Wednesday. Kennedy was given a tough assignment his first time out, facing the powerful Brewers lineup in Miller Park. He’ll get another chance to show what he can do at home against the Angels next week. If he’s not better then, the Padres could consider going in a different direction.

MLB Betting Trends

LA Angels

The Angels have won five of their last seven games but are just 7-20 in their last 27 road games.

SD Padres

The Padres are a brutal 4-17 in their last 21 home games and are 15-36 in their last 51 games overall.

Prediction:

Kennedy was pounded for six runs and three home runs in four innings by the Brewers in his major league debut and the Angels offer plenty of challenges tonight. Granted, he sees a ball park boost going from pitching in Miller Park to pitching at Petco but if his stuff isn’t good again then the Angels will thrive. With the total sitting at just 8.5, I like the over to cash for a second straight night in San Diego.

The Pick: Angels/Padres over 8.5
