Indy 500 Predictions: Who will win the Indianapolis 500? 5/27/17

Indy 500 Predictions

It’s finally time for the Indianapolis 500 to take place on Sunday morning. Here are the drivers we like to contend for the big win. Here are our Indy 500 Predictions

ODDS

The Indianapolis 500 is a 500-mile race that is held at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The race takes place Saturday at 11AM ET and will air on ABC. According to oddsmakers, Fernando Alonso is now the favorite with 5/1 odds to win. Other short odds to prevail are Scott Dixon (11/2), Will Power (17/2) and Helio Castroneves (10/1).

INDY 500 PREDICTIONS

SCOTT DIXON

Scott Dixon is a two-time winner of this race and he starts from the pole position this morning. He has managed to go wire-to-wire before, winning from the pole in 2008. I think he can do it again. He has been in the mix plenty in this race and on this track and he has finished in the top 5 of all five Indy races this year. Dixon has two-runner-up finishes and has won at least two races in IndyCar every year. He is due for a win and I think he gets it.

JUAN MONTOYA

It’s hard to ignore Juan Montoya with 12/1 odds to win. He has competed in four Indy 500 races in his career and won two of them. He finished fifth in another effort. Last year he placed 33rd, but that was due to some car trouble. As long as Montoya’s vehicle stays out of harm’s way, he should be right in the mix for another win. This is a track he is being brought back especially for. He is great at Indy and I don’t think that changes in this race.

JAMES HINCHCLIFFE

If you are looking for a longshot, James Hinchcliffe may be worth consideration. He enters the Indy 500 with 22/1 odds. He already holds a victory this year in one of just five races. His history in this race isn’t ideal. In five appearances, he has yet to crack the top 5, but he did finish seventh a year ago and sixth in 2012. He has qualified well, taking the poll a year ago while starting second two other times. That means he knows how to fly around the track. He just hasn’t been able to put it together for a complete race. The potential is there, Hinchcliffe just needs some help from his team and a little luck. Keep an eye on him in this one.
