Giants’ 2017 World Series Odds don’t budge following Bumgarner Injury

Cubs vs. Giants

Despite Madison Bumgarner’s injury, the Giants’ 2017 World Series odds remain unchanged.

Bumgarner was placed on the 10-day disabled list on Friday. He suffered bruised ribs and a Grade 1-2 strain of his left shoulder AC joint. The left-hander suffered the injuries during a dirt bike accident on Thursday. He will be re-evaluated next week, but the ace is expected to miss at least 6-8 weeks.

Despite Bumgarner’s injuries, the Giants’ 2017 World Series odds haven’t budged. According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Giants are still 25/1 to win the 2017 World Series. That said, with the Giants currently in last place in the NL West, their 2017 World Series odds could soon plummet.

This is the first time in Bumgarner’s outstanding career that he has been placed on the disabled list. Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports that there is concern inside the Giants’ organization that Bumgarner could miss longer than two months. The Giants have yet to announce the time table for his recovery.

Bumgarner’s injury puts a damper on not only the Giants’ 2017 World Series odds, but their playoff chances in general. Ty Blach is expected to fill Bumgarner’s spot in the rotation until the ace is healthy. Blach was solid down the stretch for the Giants last year, but there’s no question the team will miss Bumgarner’s presence.

The only good news for the Giants is that they still have an ace on the staff in Johnny Cueto. He was shelled by the Rockies on Friday night, but he’s a more than capable No. 1. Cueto, Blach, Matt Moore, Matt Cain and Jeff Samardzija make up for the rest of the Giants’ rotation.
