College Football Predictions: Will Virginia Tech hang with Clemson? 9/30/17
Will Virginia Tech hang with Clemson tonight when the two ACC rivals clash tonight in Blacksburg?
The Odds: Clemson at Virginia Tech, 8:00PM ET, Blacksburg
According to oddsmakers, the Hokies are 7-point home underdogs for tonight’s game. The Tigers opened as 5.5-point favorites but the line has climbed to a touchdown. As for the total, the number hit the board at 51 but has been bet down to 49.
Clemson Tigers Betting Trends
The Tigers are 5-1 against the spread in their last six games overall, are 4-1 against the number in their last five games coming off a win, and are 5-0 at the betting window in their last five games after allowing less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game. Clemson is also just 1-4 against the number in its five conference games, however.
Virginia Tech Hokies Betting Trends
The Hokies are 7-1 against the spread in their last eight games overall, are 5-1 against the number in their last six home games, and are 4-1 at the betting window in their last five games coming off a win. The underdog is also 5-1 against the spread in the last six meetings between these two teams while the home squad is 5-2 at the betting window in the last seven meetings.
Our Prediction
Lamar Jackson couldn’t do anything at home a few weeks ago when Louisville hosted Clemson. Still, Josh Jackson has given Virginia Tech a legitimate offense to go along with the Hokies’ usually stout defense and special teams. He’s completing 65.2 percent of his passes for 1,127 yards with 11 touchdowns to just one interception. If though Lamar Jackson couldn’t move the ball against Clemson’s stout defense, I have a good feeling about Josh Jackson tonight.
The home team has covered the spread in five of the last seven meetings between these two teams. The underdog is also 5-1 against the number in the last six meetings. It’s difficult to win in Blacksburg and even if the Tigers accomplish the feat, I’ll take the points.
