Boxing Predictions: Who will win Mayweather vs. McGregor? 8/26/17
The anticipated bout between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor is finally upon us. Who will come away with the victory tonight? Here are our Boxing Predictions for the fight.
Latest Odds
According to the latest oddsmakers, Mayweather Jr. is the favorite in this bout, as he is getting odds of -375 to win. McGregor is listed with a money line of +285 to prevail. These two will meet tonight from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The main card airs live on PPV and begins at 9PM ET.
Floyd Mayweather Jr
This fight is a rarity, as we will see the undefeated Mayweather (49-0) take on McGregor in his professional boxing debut. Mayweather is returning to action from a 2-year absence, but certainly isn’t lacking in confidence. Arguably the greatest fighter of all time says he will once again retire after this fight, so he won’t be looking to go out on a lull. Mayweather has been able to fight a defensive style most of his career, as he has 23 decision wins. He hasn’t scored a KO win since 2011. Still, his speed hasn’t been matched, which is why he’s been able to fight a counter style and win on the cards.
Conor McGregor
McGregor isn’t a pro boxer, but he is one of the most talented mixed martial artists there is. McGregor was able to earn this fight with his mouth, as he also is one of the biggest trash talkers in all sports. He is an elite-level striker in MMA, but everything about his striking in MMA is based on his comprehensive styles. He used a wide stance for kicks and takedown defense. That won’t come into play tonight. He has to be light on his feet and use great speed to compete with Mayweather. McGregor does have knockout power in his left, which seems to be his only chance.
Boxing Predictions
To me, this is a freak show. This isn’t two equal talents competing. Mayweather may be the best boxer that ever lived and he’s facing a man who has never had a professional fight. While anyone has a puncher’s chance, the fact that Mayweather isn’t a -1000 favorite is odd to me. McGregor can’t possibly out-point Mayweather for 12 rounds, so his only chance is a KO. To do that, he needs to land a perfect punch because he’s not going to be able to continually pepper Mayweather with shots. Some of the best boxers in the world haven’t been able to hit Floyd Jr., so what will McGregor? I give credit where it is due, he has talked himself into a $100 million payday, but he’s not winning this fight. Jump on Mayweather while you can.
