Boxing Predictions: Will GGG beat Canelo Alvarez? 9/16/17
Tonight is the night. Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin are set to finally collide in the boxing ring. Which man will come away with the big victory? Here’s our Boxing Predictions for this big bout.
ODDS
According to the latest oddsmakers, Golovkin is favored to win this fight, as he has odds of -160 to prevail, while Alvarez is listed with a money line of +130 to prevail. These two will be battling for the WBC World, WBA Super World, IBF World and International Boxing Organization World Middleweight titles, as well as The Ring and lineal middleweight championships. The fight will be held from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and air live on PPV.
CANELO
Canelo Alvarez comes into this fight with a 49-1-1 record with 34 wins by knockout. The one loss was a majority decision to Floyd Mayweather Jr. back on Sept. 14 of 2013. Alvarez has won seven straight since that loss, with four wins coming by knockout. Canelo’s last bout was back on May 6, a decision win over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Canelo is a power puncher, but also has the ability to go a full 12 rounds. Alvarez has an experience edge in this fight in terms of fighting on a big platform. Canelo fought the best in Mayweather and has faced tougher competition over his career compared to Golovkin.
GGG
Golovkin, also known as “GGG” is a perfect 37-0 in his career with 33 knockouts. The native of Kazakhstan last fought in March, scoring a decision win over Daniel Jacobs. Decisions have been a rare thing for him, as he has just four in his career. GGG has displayed tremendous power over his career, scoring fast knockouts over some tough competition. Until the decision win over Jacobs, GGG hadn’t had a decision since June of 2008. The question for GGG tonight is how he will handle the big stage and if he can out-box Canelo for 12 rounds if he can’t score the knockout.
BOXING PREDICTIONS
Golovkin should certainly be the fast starter in this matchup. He has finished opponents throughout his career and finished many quickly. Canelo will look to survive the early story and then work his game plan. However, if GGG is able to land early, Alvarez may not have enough in the tank to out-point him. This fight feels like it is the crowning of GGG as the big name in boxing with Mayweather fully out of the picture. Alvarez is a great boxer, but Golovkin seems to have the boxing skill and punching power combo that we haven’t seen in some time. I like GGG to come away with the win.
BOXING PREDICTIONS: GENNADY GOLOVKIN -160
