Red Sox’ Rodriguez struggles in loss to Yankees
Eduardo Rodriguez struggled in Friday’s loss to the Yankees, giving up five runs on seven hits over his six innings of work. Rodriguez walked two and struck out two on the night. The Yankees scored a single run off of him in the second inning, then broke the game open with four in the fourth, capped off by back-to-back homers from Miguel Andujar and Greg Bird. He’ll try to turn things around and improve upon his 4.11 ERA and 1.30 WHIP when he squares off against the Nationals in Washington on Wednesday.
Nationals’ Fedde lets in five runs but still beats Phils
Erick Fedde pitched very poorly but still earned a win over the Phillies, allowing five runs in five innings on Friday. His teammates spotted him an impossible-to-blow 11-run lead in the early going and he needed it. The Phillies strung together some hits to plate two runs in the fourth inning, then Rhys Hoskins cracked a two-run homer and Scott Kingery popped a solo shot in the fifth. That was all she wrote for Fedde, who burned 115 pitches and barely lasted long enough to qualify for the gift win. He yielded eight hits and three walks while fanning three in the contest. The win was the first of his major league career. He is now 1-3 with a 6.00 ERA on the season. He will head back to the minors when Stephen Strasburg (shoulder) comes off the disabled list, or possibly even before that.
