Belmont Stakes Predictions: Will a long-shot win at Belmont Park? 6/10/17

Belmont Stakes

The 2017 Belmont Stakes will take place this evening from Belmont Park. Will one of the long-shots win Saturday’s race?

The Odds

As of Saturday morning, Irish War Cry remained the favorite to win the Belmont Stakes. According to oddsmakers, Irish War Cry is a 7/2 favorite to win at Belmont Park, followed by Lookin At Lee at 5/1. Tapwrit, meanwhile, is 6/1, followed by Gormley at 8/1.

Continuing with the odds, Senior Investment and Patch are 12/1, respectively, to win the Belmont Stakes. J Boys Echo, Meantime, and Multiplier are all 15/1, respectively. Twisted Tom is 20/1 and Hollywood Handsome has the longest odds at 30/1.

To Win: Irish War Cry

I know he’s the favorite but he’s also the most talented horse in the field. Irish War Cry has a high cruising speed and has shown an excellent ability to rate comfortably just off the lead. He did so in the Wood Memorial when he won the event earlier this year. Granted, Irish War Cry disappointed in the Kentucky Derby, but his running style should suit him well this evening in the Belmont Stakes.

To Place: Senior Investment

Following a solid third-place showing in the Preakness Stakes, Senior Investment is a long-shot that could cash big today at Belmont Park. Look for him to stalk the leader throughout, then close with a solid push late. I wouldn’t be surprised if he won today at Belmont Park but either way, I like Senior Investment to make the board when it’s all said and done.

To Show: J Boys Echo

If I were to take one of the deep long shots to win, it would be J Boys Echo. He was bounced around early in the crowded Kentucky Derby field, finishing an unremarkable 15th in the process. But he’s one of the true closers in this year’s Belmont Park field, which is crucial when you’re taking about this distance. In three starts prior to his disappointing finish in the Kentucky Derby, J Boys Echo finished third in the Grade 3 Withers, first in the Grade 3 Gotham, and fourth in the Grade 2 Blue Grass Stakes. I think he’ll compete well today.
