Orioles’ Cobb hit hard in no-decision vs. Mariners
Alex Cobb was lit up for eight hits and five runs over 4 2/3 innings Wednesday in a no-decision against Seattle. He walked three and struck out one while throwing 57 of his 92 pitches for strikes. Cobb served up a solo home run to Ryon Healy in the second inning before giving up another run on Denard Span’s RBI single in the third. After retiring the side in the fourth, the wheels finally fell off for Cobb in the fifth when he allowed three walks (one intentional), two hits and three earned runs. The right-hander has been among the worst starting pitchers in baseball this year, struggling to a brutal 6.75 ERA with two wins and a league-high nine losses. He’ll be back on the hill Tuesday night in Philly.
Phillies’ Eflin beats Yankees for fifth straight win
Zach Eflin limited the Yankees to four hits over seven shutout frames Wednesday in a 3-0 Phillies victory. Eflin racked up six strikeouts over 92 pitches. He also walked a pair of batters. New York never got much going against Eflin, managing just six base-runners all night. None of the Yankees’ four hits went for extra bases. The 24-year-old had a phenomenal month, going 5-0 with a stingy 1.76 ERA over across five June starts. Eflin will look to extend his winning streak to six when he takes the hill Tuesday against Baltimore.
MLB Betting Trends
Baltimore
The Orioles are just 3-11 in Cobb’s 14 starts this season.
Philadelphia
The Phillies have won all five of Eflin’s last five starts.
Prediction:
If you want to fade Cobb and the Orioles, that’s certainly not a bad play. That said, I see major value in the over. Cobb has been horrendous this season, with the over cashing in four of his last five starts on the road. Eflin silenced the Yankees in his last start but Citizens Bank Park is hitter-friendly as a whole and the Orioles, while strikeout-prone, can hit the long ball. The over is 8-2 in Eflin’s last 10 starts coming off five days of rest in between outings.
The Pick: Orioles/Phillies over 9
