Public Betting Trends
Oddsmakers from online sportsbooks currently list the Diamondbacks as a -115 favorite. As of this writing, 72% of the betting tickets wagered at online sportsbooks are on the Diamondbacks to beat the Padres on the moneyline.
Diamondbacks’ Buchholz holds Cubs in check in last start
Clay Buchholz limited the Cubs to one run over 6 2/3 innings Tuesday in the Diamondbacks’ 5-1 victory. Buchholz was making his first start in the majors in exactly a month after dealing with a strained oblique, but he showed no rustiness. The Cubbies managed only six hits and a couple walks against the veteran right-hander, and Buchholz punched out five batters. Buchholz has proved to be a terrific pickup off the scrap heap, as he now boasts a 2.38 ERA and 0.99 WHIP over eight starts. He is a good streaming option Sunday in San Diego.
Padres’ Lucchesi earns win vs. Mets
Joey Lucchesi held the Mets to two runs over 5 1/3 innings Monday for his fifth win of the year. Lucchesi gave up six hits but issued zero walks and struck out six. The 25-year-old rookie left-hander now holds an impressive 3.34 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 75/25 K/BB ratio through his first 72 2/3 major league innings. He’ll get the Diamondbacks at home next.
MLB Betting Trends
Arizona
The Diamondbacks have won four of the last five meetings between these two teams, including back-to-back wins the last two nights.
San Diego
The Padres have lost five of Lucchesis’ last seven starts overall.
Prediction:
The Padres are in the midst of a 2-8 slide over their last 10 games but I’m taking my shot on them today. While public bettors are hammering the D-Backs at the betting window, the money is actually on the Padres this afternoon (signaling that San Diego is perhaps a “sharp” play). With a series victory already wrapped up and this being getaway day for Arizona, I’m rolling the dice on San Diego.
The Pick: San Diego Padres -105
