ACC: Virginia Tech vs. Miami Predictions Against the Spread 11/4/17
Will tonight’s ACC battle between Virginia Tech and Miami result in a low-scoring affair for bettors?
The Matchup: Virginia Tech at Miami, 8:00 p.m. ET, Miami Gardens
The Hokies enter play with an impressive 7-1 record and a 2-0 mark on the road. They’ve also covered in five of those eight games played and are 1-1 against the spread on the road.
As for the Hurricanes, they’re perfect on the season at 7-0 but have had plenty of close calls in recent weeks. They are a perfect 4-0 at home but have failed to cover in three of their four games in Miami Gardens. They’re 3-4 at the betting window overall.
The Odds: Miami now a field goal favorite
According to oddsmakers, the Hurricanes are now 3-point home favorites. The line for this game danced all week. Miami opened as a 1.5-point favorite before the line jumped the fence. Then Virginia Tech spent several days as a small favorite between 1.5 and 2 points. As of Saturday morning, however, Miami is now a field goal favorite, which is the highest the line has been since it opened.
Virginia Tech Hokies
Redshirt freshman Joshua Jackson has been outstanding this season for the Hokies. He completed 13-of-27 passes for 200 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for an additional score in last week’s 24-3 win over Duke.
One of Jackson’s highlights in the game came in the closing seconds of the first half when he threw a 20-yard touchdown pass. He also ran the ball into the end zone for a six-yard score late in the third quarter.
Jackson has now accounted for 19 touchdowns in eight games this season.
Miami Hurricanes
Redshirt junior Malik Rosier (shoulder) is not listed on Miami’s injury report for tonight’s game. The signal-caller was breifly forced out of last week’s win over North Carolina after landing hard on his shoulder. He did return to the game, however, and practiced this week.
Rosier has thrown for 2,071 yards with a 17-to-4 touchdown-to-interception ratio over the course of seven games. At times he has struggled to move Mark Richt’s offense, while at other times he cannot be stopped. Rosier has been maddeningly inconsistent.
Our Prediction
The ‘Canes offer a lot of value to bettors, especially with the majority of public players on the Hokies. That said, the under is the best bet on the board tonight. Both defenses are nasty and both offenses have been inconsistent this year.
In the last seven meetings between these two teams in Miami, the under is 6-1. In the last 14 meetings overall, the under is 10-4.
College Football Week 10 Prediction: Virginia Tech/Miami under 46.5
